Overcoming Depression: A Guide to Addressing Mental Disorientation

Depression, to me, is an overwhelming sense of worthlessness and uselessness. You continuously tell yourself that you cannot amount to anything, leading you to take matters into your own hands by succumbing to sadness.
Let's revisit the time when I was still in college.
I attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where I studied biochemistry. Everything was going well until I became overwhelmed during my third year. The heavy workload and the number of courses offered at that time threw me off balance, and I quickly fell into a state of depression.
Buddies, even now, I am still struggling with depression. Honestly, this may be due to my current situation as a jobless graduate. However, here are the things I do to keep my mind in check.
How I improved my Mental Health
Writing has helped a lot. So far, I have been able to express my emotions and make others feel better by sharing my own experiences. I encourage you to try writing down how you feel; it can be beneficial as well.
Studying the scriptures, although I do not do this often, allows me to draw inspiration from God's word. I am reassured by the knowledge that He has only good things in store for me. Indeed, He has only positive intentions for all of us.
Listening to gospel music and playing uplifting gospel tunes can soothe the soul and calm the mind.
I exercise a lot as well; it brings me a sense of peace and keeps my body calm. Sometimes, I also meditate.
You can also add therapy to the list. Remember, if you can afford it, then go for it.
Some of these activities were never intended to eliminate depression entirely, but I chose to engage in them because they are beneficial as well.
